Labour Left Forum: specific amendments suggested

Over at Labour Left Forum we are working on specific amendments to the new policy documents.

Partnership into Power - you haven't long

Amendments need to be in from CLPs and affiliated bodies by 20 June.

2008 May Manifesto Petition

John McDonnell has put forward a 'May Manifesto' petition.

London Results

The BBC and pretty much everywhere seems to be useless on getting London results out.  However the Labour Representation Committee is doing well, as is Union Futures.  They seem to be your best places for following the results.

Policy consultation - going beyond constitutional change

I've enjoyed reading people's suggestions on various threads about policies they want to see Labour enact.

Constitutional reforms could give us a bit of radical spark back, and political anoraks like it (or loathe it!)  But a programme of constitutional reform would not be enough...

LRC Live blog

The LRC is running a live blog on their website, commenting on results as they come in, etc.

Policy consultation - what do we want?

According to the Guardian, policy documents are winging their way to CLPs and union branches immediately after the elections, and we will be given full opportunities to submit as many amendments as we wish.  I'm not 100% sure what happens then (NPF members care to enlighten us?) but it sounds like a positive step.

What impact should this have on Labour?

The new General Secretary of the Labour Party is...

...comrades here on Labourhome will no doubt be surprised and saddened to learn...

Alan Johnson too?

Seems Alan Johnson is going to get some unhelpful headlines in the morning too.

Tories propose a new way for private companies to profit from tax payers and a way to punish those in most need

Clause IV, leadership and democracy

I'm currently reading Alistair Campbell's diaries (a Christmas present) and enjoying them rather more than some of the reviewers.  But re-living the Clause IV debate (and getting an inside view of the 'other side') has raised some very important questions for me.  Does the nature of leadership in modern British politics make party democracy impossible?

Labour personality of the year, 2007

Who do you reckon?  (Please add some suggestions if you like)

2007: Review of the Year

Well 2007 has come to a close, and I wanted to briefly look back on these 12 months in Labour history, from a left perspective.

Brown so far - the verdict

Following Brown's grilling by the Commons' liaison committee, now seems an appropriate time to briefly assess how he's doing...

The Crisis

It is time for us to be pretty blunt and self-critical as a party, and some big decisions and changes are necessary.  The crisis in the party and the government has reached a critical point, and waiting it out is no longer an option.
